The Promises of God in Scripture

Have you ever wondered how the Bible fits together? There are several key passages where God explains His relationship with His people. In fact, He makes them specific promises. These are called covenants and there are four major covenants that shape the story of Scripture. It is through God’s covenants that He builds and reveals His Kingdom. Our next five Saturday Night Bible studies will examine each of the four covenants and then a final study to see how all the covenants fit together. This lecture series is available for purchase as a DVD set.
The Promise of God to Abraham
Our first study examines God’s covenant with Abraham. He makes a promise to Abraham that shapes the rest of the story of Scripture. In it, God reveals a little more about His character. The Promise of God to Moses
There is much confusion in the church today about the law. Some say that we are not under law but under grace so no laws apply. Others have grave concerns about removing the ten commandments from our courthouses because they see them as foundational. These questions all go back to the covenant that God made with Moses back on mount Sinai. From this covenant, we learn more about God and how He deals with us. This covenant shapes the rest of the story of Scripture. Join us to learn how.
The Promise of God to David
The promise God makes with king David is one of the pinnacle events in the Old Testament. Within this covenant, God promises to establish a kingdom that was last forever through the house of David. The language about the kingdom of David will shape the rest of Scripture and the entire ministry of Jesus. Come and see how God reveals himself through the covenant he forms with David.
The New Promise of God
Each of God’s covenantal promises builds on the previous one. There is continuity from Abraham to Moses, and from Moses to David but all things are made complete in the New Covenant which is made through Jesus Christ. This is the culmination of the gospel message and absolutely paramount to our faith. We no longer ask what our relationship to Abraham is, but rather what is our relationship to Jesus. Come and learn the importance of the New Covenant, sealed in Christ’s blood and see how his work fulfills God’s promises.
The Unity of God’s Promises
In this last lecture, Rhome van Dyck summarizes the content of each covenant and shows the way in which God has weaved through them the story of Salvation in Christ.
