Our Team

Sacra Script has assembled an international team of seminary-trained contributors with various specialties including biblical narrative analysis, educational methodology, biblical and ecclesiastical history, technology, and professional media production. This diversity creates a balanced and well-rounded curriculum that reaches across denominational lines and geographical boundaries. Our structure also allows us to collaborate with other scholars adapting the best content to our methodology.

Carlos Astorga

Carlos Astorga

Carlos was born in Mexico City and raised in Monterrey, Mexico where by God´s grace, he came to trust Christ when he was 19 years old. Carlos has a degree in Computer Science from the School of Physics and Mathematics of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, in Monterrey, México. He worked as a software engineer for 17 years and has served in diverse ministry roles since 1992. In 2000, he moved to Dallas to pursue his degree in Historical Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary which he obtained in 2005. He was ordained for the Gospel ministry in 2006 at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas where he served as an associate pastor of Hispanic ministries from 2004 to 2009. He has ministered as a teacher of the Bible, Church history and theology in the US, México, Central America, and Spain. He married his wife Miriam in 1999 and together they have three  daughters: twins Elisa and Carolina, and Sofia. Carlos enjoys reading, thinking, and learning, particularly about astronomy, theology, philosophy, technology and science. He also enjoys football and has been a fan of the Dallas Cowboys since he was seven years old when the Cowboys beat the Broncos in Super Bowl XII. Carlos and family live in Denver, Colorado.

Rhome van Dyck

Rhome DyckRhome was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, and grew up in various places across Canada. His passion is for the worldwide Church and teaching the message of God’s Word from its original context. Along with a diploma in Biblical Studies from Columbia Bible College, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with an emphasis on the Reformation from Simon Fraser University and a Th.M. in Historical Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. He has served as a pastor for seven years and was ordained at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas. He has traveled extensively around the world teaching and training pastors often in areas of persecution and continues a busy teaching schedule both at home and abroad. He loves to help people understand how the entire story of Scripture reveals God’s redemptive plan through Christ. He is married to Vanessa, a college professor who is now attending Dallas Seminary. Rhome loves sports, music, history and the great outdoors. He likes to ski on both water and snow, recreate outdoors (he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa in 2007) and enjoys traveling the world with his wife.

Vanessa van Dyck

Vanessa van Dyck

Born near Houston, Vanessa’s family was involved in the oil industry. She spent parts of her childhood in Tripoli, Libya and London, England. Vanessa is a teacher at heart. As a college professor, she taught reading and study skills for several years at community colleges in Texas. She has trained other teachers in their educational methods and consults with Sacra Script Ministries in developing Bible study curriculum. She also has served on the mission field in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela. Vanessa holds a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University. She is currently obtaining a second masters degree in Biblical Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary and is scheduled to graduate in May 2011.

Vanessa is married to Rhome. She accompanies her husband’s travels and teaches classes with him on occasion. She enjoys teaching Bible studies and leads worship for women at her home church, Stonebriar Church in Frisco, Texas. Along with playing the acoustic guitar and percussion, Vanessa is a hymn writer. She has written several hymns for use in the church and has released a CD of eight of her hymns called Hymns of Sacred Scripture. She loves to sing praise to the Lord and to encourage others to do the same.

Jonathan Murphy

Jonathan Murphy

Jonathan was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland but spent the first 13 years of his life in the Canary Islands, Spain where his parents served as missionaries. He has been involved in ministry his entire life often serving alongside his parents and six siblings. Jonathan’s passion is to help people understand what God is saying in His Word and encourage them to apply it to life. He has a Masters degree in Accounting and Finance from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland along with a Master of Theology and a Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary. Jonathan has served as adjunct professor and  instructor in Pastoral Ministries at Dallas Theological Seminary and has ministered God’s Word in Spain, Northern Ireland, Scotland and the United States. He now serves as the senior pastor of  Newcastle Baptist Church in Newcastle, Northern Ireland. He is married to his high school sweetheart Sarah Jane and they have two children: Sienna and Joshua, with a third one on the way. When not in the Word, Jonathan loves sports including cheering for Ulster and his beloved Ireland in rugby while rooting for Spain in football. He always enjoys a good book, especially if it relates to the Second World War.
